The Basque Mural is located on the east side of the Anduiza Fronton Building off S. Capitol Blvd across from the Grove Hotel.
The Letterheads, an international group of artists, painted this mural along with two others for the city of Boise at their annual convention in 2000. Lead muralist, Bill Hueg, designed the mural and the Yankee’s Machine Shop donated the original panels to hang it on the side of the building.
Letterhead founder and Boise sign legend, Noel Weber, and more than 25 volunteers worked for three days to complete the project.
In 2018, in partnership with the City of Boise Department of Arts & History, the mural was repainted and digitized by Noel & Bill and the original of that reproduction is hanging in Boise City Hall. The reprint was put on another material in order to better take care of the mural overtime.
You can see the Basque Mural while driving north on Capitol Boulevard at Grove Street.
The Basque Mural by The Letterheads
This mural shares the history and culture of the Basques from their 13th century history of exploration and merchantmen to their farmhouses, or “basseriak”, Picasso’s “Guernica”, to the immigration and roots in the United States including sheepherding, religion, sport, music, and dance.
